Get To Know Coach - 6th Grade Boyertown Black HC Andrew Weil - GTKC #2

Hey everyone!

So admittingly it has been a lot longer between these articles than I expected.  Mainly because you all have been amazing in your support and I flat out have had zero time to write these articles. So I would be remiss if I didn't take a quick second to thank you all so much for the support! To those who have ordered so far, I hope you are happy with your purchase.  If you are not,  please contact BSN sports for all complaints. 😀

In our first article, we met up with Coach Scott Reid of Boyertown 6th Grade Red.  It's only fitting that mid season and Piggy Bowl Weekend, we circle back with Boyertown 6th Grade other HC, Team Black Coach Andrew Weil. In keeping with the previous format, we want to just start out by doing a quick run through of Coach so players and parents alike can get to know him a bit better.

For those of you who don’t know Andrew, I can almost guarantee you have seen him. He is a mainstay at fields and gymnasiums year round.  I am sure his wife Denise would agree that Windlestrae Fields may as well be his fall mailing address. Now, I say that I guarantee you've seen him not only because he is a perennial fixture in Boyertown Youth Sports, but you likely would know him by his signature accessory. When you think about some of the great names in sports, Tom Landry had his fedora, Ken Griffey Jr. made the backwards fitted baseball cap look so good, Joe Namath had fur coats, and right there in the pantheon of sports style is Coach Weil and his infamous bucket hat.  But we aren't here to talk about style, what we want to know more about is what is going on under that notorious bucket hat.

Coach Weil has a collective 13 years of coaching experience under his belt that is split between Football (5) and Baseball (8).  Considering he is only 37, I think you start to understand how much being a coach means to Andrew and how much he enjoys being in the youth coaching environment. To that point, when I asked him what was the main catalyst that pushed him into coaching, he said “Being able to share my knowledge and passion for the game with the new generation of athletes. Then, watching them apply those lessons and succeed on the field.”

When we think and talk about sports, especially their value to younger players, we tend to talk about how sports can in many ways prepare and mimic the trials of life off the field. So, I asked Coach if there were any key lessons he likes to instill into his players that he feels will translate to being an overall better person. His response was concise and fundamental in nature in that he wants them to be first and foremost “Great teammates, learn to lead and give your all.” These are certainly lessons that most if not all parents of athletes under Coach Weil would love to know are being imprinted onto their child.

Coaching through the youth level takes a special personality.   From my somewhat disconnected view on the sidelines, I’ve watched countless practices and games without the slightest desire to step into the coach role. Moving through the youth ranks of coaching, the role can be an amalgamation of mentor, medic, counselor, and coach with a pinch of babysitter thrown in when kids lose focus. So it comes at really no surprise when I asked Coach Weil to sum up the best quality he thinks is needed when it comes to coaching.  Simply put “Patience.” Hard to argue with that one!

My final question to Andrew was to describe his coaching style. “Passionate” was his reply.  Passionate is not only accurate but right on target for what you want to hear from a coach who can play such a pivotal role in the lives of our kids.

That’s a wrap on Coach Andrew Weil. We hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about Boyertown 6th Grade Black’s Head Football Coach.  Good luck to all the Boyertown teams this weekend at Piggy Bowl and keep checking in as we intro coaches from around the area. If you know someone you’d like to nominate to be featured, hit me up Teams@Bleacheryeti.com! Till then, swag up and cheer those kids on with Bleacher Yeti Fan Gear!
